Virgin Media alters its throttling policy

July 20, 2009

With the cable provider, Virgin Media’s next gen rollout completed, the next task would normally be to get some new customers on board to help pay for the outlay, but it seems that the company is focusing on otherr tasks.

According to Virgin Media, the company will be changing its bandwidth throttling policy, and this time the target users will be those who are always exceeding the firm’s fair usage policy.

It is estimated that around five per cent of Virgin Media subscribers currently have their broadband speed restricted during the peak hour to ensure that all users are able to make use of the service.

But this is about to change, Virgin Media will only be restricting the broadband speed of the top two per cent of users, as it feels that these are the users that are having a large impact on the Virgin Media network.
