BSkyB claims 9.4 million subscribers

It is estimated that BSkyB has had another good quarter with subscriber figures rising to around the 9.4 million mark.

As predicted by the satellite broadcaster the recession would to be having little effect on the satellite TV sector.

BSkyB has a target figure of ten million subscribers by 2010, and with these latest figures it would seem that this target is well within reach.

Despite the current economic conditions, pay TV and in particular BSkyB, has been reaping the rewards of stay at home consumers.

When the figures are released in full, it will be interesting to see the break down of how the subscriptions are made up and whether or not the economic climate is affecting the premium channels.

The current estimate is that BSkyB added over ninety thousand new customers in the last quarter, making the total for the year around four hundred and thirty thousand.
