LG-Vudu Earlier, we reported that Samsung completed a deal with Blockbuster’s ONDemand service. LG, on the other hand, will have Vudu. LG won the privilege of embedding the functionality of Vudu’s BX100 set-top box into their televisions as they offer a more mainstream and widely available avenue for the company as it shifts from a standalone hardware maker to a video service provider. Aside from LG, Vudu is also coming to Vizio’s forthcoming VF551XVT.

Vudu has hundreds of movies and TV shows available, and most of them are even available in HD and 5.1 Dolby surround sound. The Vudu feature will appear on LG’s "Netcast" TVs, which currently includes the LH50 LCDs and the PS80 plasmas. It will join the already strong interactive features on those sets, which include Netflix, YouTube, and Yahoo Widgets.

Information from Vudu mentioned that the embedded version of its BX100 set-top box will have the same features and the same functionality as the original device. To note, the BX100’s HDX 1080p video is one of the best Internet videos out in the market, but with a catch, it needs pre-caching on the BX100’s built-in hard drive on all but the highest bandwidth broadband connections. If that’s the same performance that Vudu and LG can promise, then no doubt, this partnership will grow to new heights.
