Wales needs a bit of broadband attention

by David Allen

Yet another committee of MPs is speaking out at the poor state of the UK’s broadband network.

This time it concerns Wales.

The situation there is well known, with some places such a Cardiff and Swansea doing well when it comes to broadband.

There are even BT and TalkTalk trials of fibre optic broadband being tested in Cardiff.

However, at the same time there are places where broadband is impossible due to the distance between some communities and the exchanges.

There are other options available, such as Wi-Fi, mobile broadband and satellite broadband, but these involve high costs and there are issues with reliability.

According to the committee, universal access to broadband in Wales should be a priority as it is considered essential to the region’s future growth.
