Stephen Timms is the new Communications Minister

August 6, 2009

It seemed that as soon as the Digital Britain report was published the person responsible for it, the communications minister, Lord Carter, announced that he was off, but since then nothing substantial appears to have been done.

Enter the Treasury Minister, Stephen Timms, as the newly appointed communications minister.

He is charged with taking the Digital Britain report and getting the plan moving once more, after a period of time when everything had appeared to grind to a halt.

The first two jobs are to formulate a plan for the 50p per month charge on all phone lines to be put into practice, and the creation of an independent body that was supposed to have been running already, but looks as if it will not even have a chief executive until October.
