ITV agrees a deal with BBC over HD channel

August 14, 2009

With HD content limited on the free to air platform Freeview, ITV viewers have been faced with either going without watching their favourite show in HD or getting a Freesat system.

However, due an agreement between the BBC and ITV, viewers will soon be able to see ITV in HD on Freeview.

This is because the BBC has leased out some of its bandwidth to its commercial rival, giving a boost to ITV and the channel’s viewers.

As with some other programmes and channels, the ITV HD service may not be rolled out nationwide, but that is a commercial decision between the broadcaster and the regions.

There is one other factor that viewers may need to consider, which is that the Freeview HD set top box is a rare commodity at the moment.
