Smartphones will dominate Euro market
Smartphones have been climbing up the European mobile market for the last several years, and now Gartner estimates that by the year 2012 smartphones will make up about 70% of the entire mobile market.

Carolina Milanesi, a research director for mobiles, said that the rise to the top has been fuelled by the high demand for upscale smartphones such as the iPhone and various BlackBerrys.

Milanesi continued to say that in the future it is very likely that the only mobiles left on the market will be smartphones that have mobile broadband access and touch screen interfaces.

Other research firms have also found that smartphones are on the rise, with a study by Strategy Analytics noting, interestingly enough, that even though mobile sales were down by 8% last year, Apple’s iPhone saw sales that increased by about six times the previous year.

This year, 28% of all mobiles that have been sold in Europe are smartphones.

According to Milanesi, although sales of mobiles overall are down more than they have ever been since the mobile market emerged, Christmas will bring with it a large rise of smartphone sales due to the many new models of phones that are scheduled to be released for the holidays.
