Calls for better broadband in Norfolk

by David Allen

MPs from Norfolk are planning to meet with the management of BT in order to work at a plan that could see the most rural areas of the region either get connected to the broadband network for the first time, or get an increase in speed.

The group of MPs is being led by the South Norfolk MP Richard Bacon and the only other MP to join the cause so far is the newest MP, Norwich North’s Chloe Smith, although it is hoped that by the time that the meeting takes place on the 11th September the group should be larger.

According to BT, it is just as interested as the MPs in seeing rural places without a broadband service being connected.

It has been found that while there is a broadband connection speed of 6 Mbps in Norwich and some towns, the rest of the region is having to make do with a 0.5 Mbps service.
