Over fifties using broadband to stay in touch

August 21, 2009

New research has found that the over fifties are beginning to rely on the internet to stay in touch with family and friends.

According to Just Retired, which conducted the research, around ninety per cent of people over fifty are using the internet to stay in touch, while sixty five per cent are regularly going online in order to do their weekly shopping.

These figures highlight the need for older people to have access to a good broadband connection and to be up to date with computer issues.

Organisations such as Age Concern already have a technology and digital inclusion development manager, whose job it is to provide the over sixty fives with support and help in these matters.
