BBC4 searching for the golden hare

by David Allen

The BBC’s digital channel BBC4 is looking to produce a wonderful series chronicling the story of Kit Williams, the author of the kids book “Masquerade” and the golden hare that was the prize in a most unusual treasure hunt.

However, the golden hare that had remained hidden for over thirty years somewhere in the UK becomes a target for treasure seekers who used the clues hidden in the book to somehow locate this treasure.

Yet the backlash from the media and the fact the golden hare remained hidden forced the author to become a virtual recluse.

The programme hopes the readdress some of the issues that surrounded the search for the golden hare.

The treasure was actually found in 1982 and then turned up at Sotheby’s in 1988 when it was sold for over £31,000.

The programme will track down the owners and look in depth into the book and the author.
