SES Astra agrees terms with BSkyB

September 1, 2009

SES Astra has announced a contract renewal with the satellite broadcaster BSkyB, for twenty four transponders on a long term basis.

This is for the Astra satellite at 28.2 degrees, east orbital position.

The contract takes the amount of transponders being used by BSkyB to thirty one on the Astra satellite system.

SES Astra is part of the global satellite operator SES, which owns two market-leading satellite operators, SES ASTRA in Europe and SES AMERICOM-NEW SKIES, and provides global coverage and connectivity.

This agreement cements a deal that has been running since Sky TV’s analogue multi channel package was first launched in 1989 through the Astra 1A satellite.

According to BSkyB’s COO Mike Darcey, the relationship between Sky and Astra has been a long and fruitful one.
