Skype sold for £1.2 billion

David Allen -

It was back in 2005 when the online auction house eBay bought the VoIP phone service Skype for £1.4 billion, but after never really being able to make anything from the this service, it seems that eBay is prepared to let it go at a loss.

According to the New York Times, it is understood that eBay is quite prepared to sell Skype for around £1.2 billion.

It is believed that there is a private consortium interested in taking on Skype, but little is known as to the long term plans.

Surprisingly Skype actually returns a profit, so there is clearly a viable business there, but for eBay, while it seemed a good move to integrate Skype into its system to help buyers and sellers communicate, the idea has ended in failure.
