The UK’s Digital Champion speaks out

September 3, 2009

As part of the government’s move to implement the Digital Britain plan, one of the recommendations was to bring in a Digital Champion, who would be someone who could speak out about broadband and other matters.

Currently the Digital Champion is founder Martha Lane Fox and, in a recent interview, she called for the UK to have a virtual race to get broadband into every home and small business in the country.

She said that she wants to see the poorest six million people in the UK connected to the broadband network as a matter of priority.

Even though some people choose to remain offline, the Digital Champion believes that she can convince them that by being online there is so much that they can be benefitting from, such as shopping, education and other savings available online.
