The rise of the set top box is set to continue on a global scale, and this growth defies the current economic climate and is due to the increase in demand for high definition TV, according to iSuppli.
Sales of set top boxes have been growing since 2006 and do not appear to be showing any signs of slowing in the long term either.
The estimated figure for shipments during 2009 is 136.7 million, which is up 4.2 per cent on the previous year’s figure of 131.2 million units.
However, the figures are set to continue to rise.
In fact there is an estimate of around 201 million units being shipped in 2013, showing a massive increase as the demand in Asia and for HD services increases.
