BT to rollout fibre next year

David Allen -

It seems that BT could finally be ready to start rolling out its fibre optic broadband service, however enthusiastic consumers will still have to wait some months, as BT is not planning to start this work until the early part of next year.

The internet service provider has been trialling the super fast broadband service in Whitchurch in Cardiff and Muswell Hill in London, with around fifteen thousand BT customers taking part.

The latest Fibre to the Cabinet (FTTC) service is capable of providing speeds of up to 40 Mbps to over half the households and small businesses in the UK, but on average, the speed will be around 20 Mbps.

According to BT, sixty nine phone exchanges are already capable of delivering the up-to-40 Mbps service, FTTC technology having been installed.
