It was announced at the IBC 2009 in Amsterdam, that UPC Broadband will be using the next generation of Pace set top box.
These new set box boxes have been built with power consumption in mind and according to the figures it looks as if they have got this one right.
The set top box will only use around 1W while in standby mode and around 5.5W while in operation.
It is believed that the HD version of the set top box will reduce the annual power consumption by around 32 KWh and the PVR will save around 55 KWh. These figures are based on four and half hours’ use per day.
The Pace DCR7111 HD set top box is expected to be released by the end of the year.
