Apple has announced that it has exceeded two billion downloads with its iTunes App Store.

“The rate of App Store downloads continues to accelerate with users downloading a staggering two billion apps in just over a year, including more than half a billion apps this quarter alone,” commented Apple’s CEO, Steve Jobs.

It’s certainly an impressive milestone, although Apple didn’t comment on how many of the apps downloaded were freebies.

There are now 85000 apps available in the store – never mind one for every day of the year, that’s one for every six minutes.
