Last quarter we reported that the shipping of set top boxes was on the rise, which was good news for the entire industry as it indicated that there was new business to be found.
However, this quarter is seems that the tables have turned on the set top box manufacturers, with Digital Terrestrial TV (DTT) STB shipments falling by around 35 per cent in the last quarter when compared with the previous quarter.
The entire market is virtually controlled by what goes in the USA, and when the market slows there, there are ripples across the entire industry.
This can be seen clearly because the Asian DTT market has actually grown by 50 per cent during this period, selling more than 1.2 million units.
Satellite set top boxes are showing a steady rise and, in fact, the figures show that over twenty million units were shipped during the quarter.
