Firmware broken Nintendo Wiis get free repair

Nintendo has announced that it will repair the consoles of UK Wii owners which have been broken by the recent firmware update 4.2.

Repair them free of charge, that is, just as the company had previously offered over in the States.

The firmware update caused a “very small” (Nintendo reckons) amount of unlucky consoles to freeze up, and thereafter just stop working. Nasty.

In a statement, Nintendo said: “If anyone is experiencing problems with their Wii console after downloading Wii System Menu 4.2, and believes their system has not been modified, please contact our customer service centre.”

“If we find that you have a normal system and the update has caused your system to not work, we will repair it at no charge.”

The company also made a point of stressing that broken Wii owners should not return anything to customer services without contacting them first for advice.
