Rural notspots criticised

October 6, 2009

The argument over rural broadband services continues to roll on, with the Country Land and Business Association (CLA) claiming that a recent report by Cisco, stating that the UK’s broadband network is good enough for today’s use, is rubbish.

What doesn’t help the situation is the fact that countries like Bulgaria, Latvia and Lithuania are ahead way of the UK when it comes to broadband services and these results do not take into consideration the places in the UK where broadband is not available.

The ‘not spots’ will haunt any report published as, while the average broadband speed may be increasing, there is no provision for those areas where broadband is an impossible dream.

The CLA is currently in the process of compiling a not spot list, although this is likely to reflect only its members’ experiences.
