It may be early days for 3D TV, but the industry behind the technology is stepping up production of 3D TV equipment.

This market is set to explode next year in the UK when Sky launches the first 3D TV Channel, but this channel will not be any use unless the viewer has a 3D enabled television.

According to a research company called GigaOM, the industry is expecting sales of 3D TV equipment to reach forty six million units by 2013, with Sony and Panasonic looking at this as a way to bolster poor TV sales in recent years.

These are exciting times for 3D TV, but the question of formats and content needs to be addressed, along with the cost of the equipment.
