The global market for direct to home (DTH) services is expected to pass the two hundred million mark by 2018.

According to research by NSR, there are around ninety nine operators in the market providing over 13,800 channels to 114 million subscribers.

Currently this market is generating over £40 billion in subscription revenues.

The main markets at the moment are Western Europe, North America and East Asia, and there is still room for growth in these regions as new technologies become available.

HD and new PVRs lead the way in developing these well established markets, but it is Central & Eastern Europe, South America and South Asia that are going to be the market places of the future.

Give the size of these new markets it is clear to see why the industry is looking to expand into these regions.
