Cambridge-based Amino Communications has demonstrated an IPTV set-top box (STB) powered by the new Intel Atom Processor CE4100.
The STB will meet demand from viewers for TV entertainment from the full range of sources, including broadcast, on-demand and Internet “Over-the-Top” (OTT) services.
The processor, which builds on an existing relationship between Intel and Amino, is the first 45nm consumer electronics (CE) system-on-chip based on the Intel Atom core and Intel architecture.
It will allow Amino to develop new types of hybrid/OTT devices.
Keith Wehmeyer, the General Manager, IPTV, for Intel Corporation’s Digital Home Group said: “Amino recognizes the requirements for processor performance and high-quality video and graphics, and is designing a set top box based on Intel’s CE4100 media processor to provide a premium entertainment experience to consumers.”
Amino Communications recently ported Espial’s IPTV middleware, the Evo TV service platform, to its HD range of set-top boxes.
