Xbox owners can now access Sky Player, the service that brings live and on-demand programmes to the console without the need for a Sky dish.

However, to use Sky Player you will have to be an Xbox Live gold member, and then subscribe to a Sky package starting from £15 per month.

The service will offer some novel touches, such as an “avatar party mode” where console owners can get together and watch programmes with friends, chatting and emoting to each other using their graphical avatars.

According to the BBC, the launch suffered from some technical glitches which Sky says will be sorted by the end of the day.
