Virgin Media slows down sale of UKTV

October 29, 2009

It was meant to be the sale of century down at Virgin Media, but it appears that the sale of its fifty per cent stake in UKTV is about to be put on hold for the time being.

Back in April, Virgin Media opened up its doors for bids on its share of the digital TV channels under the UKTV banner, but so far the only sale completed is for the teleshopping channel, Sit-Up TV, which went to Aurelius, a Germany-based investment firm.

It was expected that the fifty per cent stake in UKTV would have been sold by now.

Virgin Media values this stake at around £353.5 million, and it seems that the company may have been trying to sell UKTV to the BBC’s commercial arm, BBC Worldwide, which already owns the other half of UKTV.
