Apple has announced that its iPhone app store now has over 100,000 apps available for download.

The news was unofficially broken last week, but has now been confirmed by Apple. And it’s a pretty impressive milestone, all the more so given that the store has only been going for (just under) a year and a half.

Over two billion apps have been downloaded in some 77 countries across the globe.

“The App Store, now with over 100,000 applications available, is clearly a major differentiator for millions of iPhone and iPod touch customers around the world,” commented Philip Schiller, Apple’s Senior Vice President of Worldwide Product Marketing.

“The iPhone SDK created the first great platform for mobile applications and our customers are loving all of the amazing apps our developers are creating.”
