UPC to produce eco set top box

In a collaboration between UPC and the set top box seller Thompson a new and green set top box is in development.

This equipment is the next generation of set top box equipment that will save power by shutting down after several hours of continuous and uninterrupted running.

However, this may sound like it new and green, but Sky+ and Sky+ HD set top boxes have been this for some time.

This is a way for the set top box makers, broadcasters and governments to show that they are doing their bit in reducing the carbon footprint and at the same time help the consumers save money and energy use.

For users that do not want the set top box switching to stand by, there is an easy option, simply switch the “Auto Standby” to the off position.
