RTL revenues down but profits are up

November 11, 2009

The European TV producer and broadcaster RTL has reported a five per cent drop in revenue, but at the same time the company is reporting a twenty two per cent rise in pre-tax profits, covering the third quarter of the year.

RTL, which produces some of the most popular TV shows around, such as the X Factor, Got Talent and Farmer Wants a Wife, saw pre-tax profits rise from 75 million Euros to 93 million Euros.

While advertising sales for the third quarter fell by five per cent, the company’s profits were boosted through the success of its broadcasting arm, which includes Mediengruppe RTL Deutschland; RTL Nederland; the UK’s Five; and M6 Group and RTL Radio in France.

Advertising, although down, is actually better than expected.
