TalkTalk will use EU piracy laws

November 11, 2009

There still seems to be a difference of opinion between the internet service providers, the government, copyright holders and now the EU.

The latter has come up with an agreement that, even though it could lead to broadband disconnection for those that choose to illegally download content, offers a way of carrying out this process that seems better to some.

One such fan appears to be TalkTalk.

The ISP welcomes the idea that accused web users will be treated differently, with the introduction of a procedure that is fair and impartial.

The idea is that the copyright holder cannot act as judge and jury in these matters, and then demand that an ISP disconnects or restricts the broadband service of an individual.

Clearly there is a long way to go on this, but it is a serious issue for all broadband users, whether they download illegal content or not.
