The UK based set top box testing equipment maker, Mirifice, has been selected by the Russian broadcast and telecom firm Comstar UTS to provide its equipment for future set top boxes.

The system that Mirifice produce is called MiriATE, which is an automated system that will test the equipment as it delivers video, regional and optical recognition.

The automating of these tests is essential for the smooth running of the entire process and to generally make sure that all of the services are running properly.

Most of the UK broadcasters that deliver services through set top boxes, such as BSkyB, BT, Top Up TV and Virgin Media, all use the MiriATE service provided by Mirifice.

The broadcasters are able to monitor systems in real time, enabling them to provide a better quality of service.
