Eccleston to play John Lennon

by David Allen

The actor who so convincingly brought back Dr Who from the far side of the TV universe, Christopher Eccleston, is to play another iconic figure in a BBC production.

The character will be John Lennon and the programme will tell the story of the singer and songwriter, starting at the time he was arrested for having drugs in his possession.

That was in 1968, when having even a small amount of illegal substances could mean arrest.

The ninety minute drama will be titled ‘John Lennon Naked’ and will be shown on the BBC’s digital channel, BBC4.

Christopher Eccleston famously played the Doctor and surprised fans by leaving at the end of the first series in 2005, making way for David Tennant to take on the role.
