60% of UK Xbox 360 owners report console failure

A CNET survey has returned the rather shocking statistic that 60% of Xbox 360 owners have had their console die on them.

That’s in comparison to just 16% of PS3 and 6% of Wii owners.

47% of the Xbox 360 deaths occurred within the first year of purchase.

Okay, so it was a fairly limited sample – 1,100 console owners, half of which were Xboxers – and the reliability of the survey could be questioned.

But anecdotals, and indeed our own experience – we’re now on our second Xbox 360 – back these statistics up to some extent.

Compared to the far lower numbers produced for the other consoles, it’s embarrassing, quite frankly. Never mind the red ring of death, Microsoft should have a red face, too.
