3DTV STB from Motorola

It was only recently announced that Motorola is thinking about selling its set top box division, which is losing money and could raise some valuable funds for the company to move off in the direction it wants.

However, it seems that the Motorola set top box division is sitting on a plan to produce digital set top boxes capable of converting 3DTV video into any of the main 3DTV formats around at the moment.

This technology was recently demonstrated at the Cable Tec Expo where Motorola was showing the VIP 1225 IP set top box.

It played a concert by U2 in 3D, although the viewer needed to wear active glasses.

The issue for Motorola here is that while the company is working on this cross platform technology, there are other 3DTV industry experts that are working towards forming common industry standards.
