The expected launch of the Eutelsat W7 satellite has been delayed 24 hours.

The launch was due to take place yesterday at 14.19 GMT, from the International Launch Services (ILS) base at the Baikonor cosmodrome in Kazakstan, but it should now be taking place at the same time today.

Once in orbit the W7 will be positioned close to the Eutelsat W4 satellite at 36 degree east.

It is due to replace the Sesat 1 satellite and will increase capacity and orbital range.

The W7 satellite will take up to seventy transponders, providing digital TV and telecoms to Europe, Russia, Africa, the Middle East and Central Asia.

So far, the launch looks like it is good to go, although no specific reason was given as to why yesterday’s launch was cancelled.
