Spotify denies console rumours

Today has witnessed the spread of rumours regarding the Spotify music streaming service appearing on next-generation consoles.

However, it seems that this isn’t the case, as IncGamers reports.

A representative from Spotify told the site: “We’ve always said that we want to be on as many devices as possible so that we can bring music to wherever are users are, but there’s no truth to these ‘anonymous’ rumours about Spotify coming to game consoles any time soon.”

So there you have it. As we reported last week, Spotify is diversifying though, having just appeared on Symbian mobiles.

I expect it to be available on all consoles before the second half of next year. Unless one of them makes an exclusive deal with Spotify which may be plausible considering the cash flow issues the company may experience in the coming year, having a guaranteed licence fee from a console manufacture could help ease those worries.
