Darlington appoints town Twitterer

by Darren Allan

The town of Darlington has appointed its own official Twitterer-in-residence, to keep locals informed of news and events via 140 character sound bites.

The position has been given to a teacher, Mike McTimoney, who will be tweeting under the user name TheDarloBard.

Paid a princely £140 per year for his services, he will basically be like an online town crier, or town twit perhaps (the next step up from village idiot?).

The role is part of the Darlington Experiment 2.0, or DX2 website, launched to promote the town.

The Metro quoted McTimoney saying: “I deal with young people on a daily basis and think this is a great way to get important information to them.”
