BBC in deep water over DVD releases

December 9, 2009

Viewers watching the hit BBC comedy show Gavin and Stacy may have done a double take at the end of the last episode.

This is because as the second episode in the third series came to an end, the BBC advertised the DVD for the entire third season, meaning that a consumer could buy the DVD and see the final episodes before they had been shown on television.

There has been a barrage of complaints from MPs and even the BBC’s commercial rivals, claiming the BBC is devaluing the TV Licence.

According to the BBC, the broadcaster wanted to cash in on the Christmas rush, which makes money for the BBC and in turn benefits the TV Licence fee payers.
