BBC Trust should be scrapped says Gregg Dyke

December 11, 2009

The knives are certainly out for the BBC at the moment; first because of the government’s plan to cut costs, while now it seems that the former director, General Greg Dyke, has decided to hit out against the organisation that he used to run.

Greg Dyke was speaking at the Royal Television Society Christmas Lecture when he criticised the BBC Trust as being slow, expensive and bureaucratic in nature, while on the other hand he was full of praise for the BBC’s independence.

According to a BBC Trust spokesperson, the BBC Trust gets on with its job and makes sure the BBC delivers value for money.

The BBC Trust is in a unique situation, being the defender of the BBC as well as being the regulator too.
