Toshiba announces 64GB embedded NAND flash memory

The boffins at Toshiba have worked out how to cram 64GB on a NAND flash memory module.

Apparently the module combines sixteen 32Gbit (i.e. 4GB) NAND chips and uses what Toshiba describes as “advanced chip thinning and layering technologies to realize individual chips that are only 30 micrometers thick.”

Production should start rolling in the first quarter of 2010, and it won’t be long before the 64GB chip will be ensconced in a smartphone or notebook near you.

Most obviously, there’ll be a 64GB iPhone on the way in 2010, you can count on it.
