BlackBerry soon to feature a Kindle App

December 18, 2009

Reading books is getting easier and easier. You can even do it on your smartphone. A lot of ebook readers are available for different smartphone devices, but joining them soon will be Amazon’s Kindle ebook reader. Amazon plans to release a new (and free) Kindle ebook reader as a BlackBerry Mobile Application. The release date for the app hasn’t been announced yet but based on Amazon Kindle’s website, it will be real soon.

The Kindle for BlackBerry will join the party with competitors such as eReader and Mobipocket as an electronic reader client for the BlackBerry. For now, Apple’s iPhone is the only smartphone with an official Kindle Client. Once released on the BlackBerry, it will be the second platform to get one.

For now, fans are hoping that the BlackBerry version will have the same functionalities as the iPhone version. For the iPhone version, users can squeeze entire libraries of Kindle books into the device. The iPhone screen size is also large enough for reading. Kindle for iPhone users, however, cannot access Kindle content other than novels like magazine subscriptions, blogs, etc. The Kindle for BlackBerry app will also likely be saddled with the same constraint.
