Twitter hacked by “Iranian Cyber Army” activists

Twitter’s security was breached at 6am this morning, as a group calling itself the “Iranian Cyber Army” compromised the site’s DNS records.

The attack caused Twitter users to get redirected to the cyber army’s page, which consisted of an image of a green flag and a message to the effect that Twitter had been hacked.

The theory is that the hack might be in retaliation for the high profile role Twitter played in organising protests concerning the Iranian election.

Twitter was down for several hours as a result of these shenanigans. It is now investigating the attack further, and “will update more as we learn the cause of this outage” according to the site’s status page.
