BBC to bring out branded set top boxes

by David Allen

If the BBC gets its own way with the multi channel joint venture know as Project Canvas, and wins the final seal of approval in February, this will see the production of new set top boxes that will possibly carry the BBC logo.

It is understood that the new set top boxes will come with a price tag of around £200!

The equipment will come fully loaded with the necessary software to allow the viewer to access the BBC iPlayer and other websites offering catch up and video on demand services through their TV sets.

The question for the BBC Trust is whether this is value for money for TV Licence Fee payers and this decision is likely to prompt appeals either way.

  1. its to help them with the TV Licence replacement. They know pushing the internet like they have means its harder for the government to scrap their enforced funded. The STBS will make their argument much better and keep forcing millions of people who would rather do without the BBC forced to fund it
