Half of BBC staff reject move north

December 30, 2009

It was expected to save money, but moving staff up to Manchester had not gone too smoothly for the BBC, despite making many of its employees an offer that they could not refuse, which clearly half of them did.

It seems that out of the 924 asked to move to the BBC North HQ in Salford, less than half have agreed to the move.

The BBC has offered staff who own their home, loans to the value of eighty per cent of the value of the property, as well as flexible packages to assist them to choose the best time to move their families.

Yet, it turns out that only 428 employees have decided to take up the offer and move north.

Those full time employees choosing not to move will have a year to find a new position within the BBC or take redundancy.
