Sega reconsiders adult games on Nintendo Wii

Sega may pull the plug on developing adult games for the Wii console.

And by adult games we don’t mean dodgy variants of strip poker – rather, games designed for an older audience as opposed to kids.

Sega has traditionally been one of the more active publishers in pushing more grown-up games on the Wii, so if this does happen, it will certainly be a blow to older Nintendo gamers.

The reason for this new line of thinking from Sega? Predictably, it’s poor sales of some of the company’s 2009 releases, such as House of the Dead: Overkill.

But the immediate catalyst appears to be underperforming sales of EA’s Dead Space Extraction, which shocked the executives at Sega.

Talking to Nintendo Everything, a Sega suit said: “Are we going to do more mature titles for the Wii? And it’s like, probably not”.

Of course, that’s a “probably”, not definitely, but it still doesn’t sound promising for Wii fans.
