AFN will be full HD by 2014

There is good news for the viewers of the American Forces Network in Europe, as the broadcaster is planning to switch from standard definition to high definition by 2014.

Funding has already been granted for the switchover to start in 2012, which means that US forces and their families will be able to benefit from HD technology, providing a clearer picture.

But this is no simple undertaking for AFN, as it means that it will have provide to equipment to around 150,000 viewers worldwide, so the logistics are a nightmare but this is the US forces and logistics is their business.

The AFN will be using the Cisco D9865 HD set top box.

This is estimated to cost around $379, almost $100 dollars more than the earlier model.
