Digital Switchover Inquiry starts

January 21, 2010

The first series of witness interviews at the Digital Switchover Inquiry, at the House of the Lord, has taken place.

The witnesses called in for the first session were: David Scott, Chief Executive, Digital UK; Peter White, Chief Executive, BBC Digital Switchover Help Scheme; Ford Ennals, Chief Executive, Digital Radio UK; and Barry Cox, Chairman, Digital Radio Working Group.

The digital switchover project started around five years ago and is not set to finish until 2012 when all households will be receiving a digital TV service from one of the several providers.

The general idea of the inquiry is to gauge the success of the switchover so far and possibly to find if there is anything that can be learned from the whole switchover process, not that there is going to be a next time.
