Freeview HD could get 350,000 HD users

February 12, 2010

At the moment BSkyB may be flying high and well on its way to reaching the ten million satellite TV subscriber target, but there could be a shock to the system heading its way, as recent research shows that interest in the new Freeview HD service is growing.

A recent survey conducted by YouGov and commissioned by Freeview found that seventeen per cent of Sky+ HD subscribers indicated that they would consider switching from Sky+ HD to the new Freeview HD service when it becomes available.

Potentially this could mean around 350,000 Sky+ HD subscribers leaving BSkyB and going with Freeview HD for a one off cost starting at around £150 for the Freeview HD set top box, while the Freeview+ HD set top box will be priced at around £300.
