Orange readies HD voice trials in the UK

Here’s another announcement from Mobile World Congress – Orange has been talking up its plans to roll out High-Definition voice technology.

As HD video does with picture, HD voice offers a similarly superior sound quality.

According to Orange, it will be “a new era for mobile communications” with “crystal clear” sound on offer that makes a phone call much like talking to someone in the same room.

That’s the hype, anyway. What the reality is, we shall find out soon enough, as three month trials will begin in the UK come spring.

HD voice will also be coming to other parts of Europe, namely France, Spain and Luxembourg.

Although the bad news about HD voice is that you’ll need a new handset with compatible hardware to be able to enjoy it. Pricing issues haven’t been discussed yet.
