The titles nominated for video game BAFTAs in 2010 have been announced, and the big names dominating the categories aren’t surprising.

The Best Game award is between Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, Uncharted 2, Batman: Arkham Asylum, Fifa 10, Left 4 Dead 2 and Assassin’s Creed II.

Funnily enough, the Gameplay award is almost identical, save for Fifa 10 and Left 4 Dead 2, which are replaced by New Super Mario Bros Wii and PixelJunk Shooter.

The Multiplayer nominations are Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, Uncharted 2, The Beatles Rock Band, Battlefield 1943, Halo 3 ODST and Left 4 Dead 2.

As you can see, some games are repeated throughout the categories. Uncharted 2 has the most nominations with nine – and there are only thirteen categories. Indeed, the ones it wasn’t nominated for were categories it didn’t qualify for (i.e. best sports game).

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 wasn’t far behind with eight nominations in total, with Batman: Arkham Asylum scooping seven, and Assassin’s Creed II six. Left 4 Dead 2 and Fifa 10 both picked up three nominations.

It’s mostly all weighty franchises, although some smaller developers are recognised, such as Popcap Games with its charming puzzler Plants vs Zombies, which received a nomination under best strategy game.

There’s also a “one-to-watch” award which honours up and coming indie developers.

The winners of the video game BAFTA awards will be announced on March 19th. Expect Uncharted 2 and Modern Warfare 2 to dominate.
