Digital Switchover finishes off in Wales

March 4, 2010

For almost fifty years the people of Wales have been watching analogue TV and now it is nearly over, as the final stage of the digital switchover began in Wales with the Wenvoe transmitter just outside of Cardiff switching off BBC 2.

The loss of BBC 2 is the signal for all households that the digital switchover has begun, meaning that there will only be a couple weeks before the analogue signal is completely switched off and all channels disappear forever.

In celebration of this landmark event, Carwyn Jones, the First Minister of the Welsh Assembly, unveiled the digital switchover countdown at the Millennium Centre.

The clock is counting down to the exact time when, on the 31st March, the transmitter will be switched off and Wales will become the UK’s first all digital region.
